Lighting the Way: Integrating LED Technology into Your Built-ins
Illuminating Architectural Detail
Lighting is the "hidden ingredient" of luxury cabinetry. You can have the finest walnut or the most perfect paint finish, but if it sits in a shadow, the detail is lost. In 2026, we have moved far beyond the "puck light" stuck to the top of a shelf. At Case & Cove, we treat lighting as a structural element, integrated directly into the millwork itself.
Properly integrated lighting does more than just help you see; it creates atmosphere, highlights your favorite collectibles, and transforms a room from a daytime workspace to an evening sanctuary.
The Glow of Luxury
Recessed LED Channels: We rout dedicated, invisible channels into the underside or the sides of our shelving. We then install high-density LED strips with specialized diffusers. The result is a "wash" of light that appears to come from the wood itself, with no visible bulbs or wires.
High-CRI (Color Rendering Index) Technology: Cheap LEDs can make wood look "gray" or "flat." We use only high-CRI lighting, which renders colors accurately. This ensures your mahogany looks rich and your curated book collection looks vibrant.
Smart Sensors and Dimming: We integrate "invisible" sensors. Open a pantry door, and the interior lights fade on automatically. For living room units, our lighting can be integrated into your home automation system (like Lutron or Crestron), allowing you to change the "scene" with a single tap on your phone.
The "Floating" Aesthetic: By placing LED strips behind the backpanels or under the baseboards of a built-in, we can create a "halo" effect that makes the entire unit appear to float off the wall. This adds a dramatic, modern architectural feel to any room.
When we design a unit, we design for the 24-hour cycle of your home. By integrating light, we ensure your built-ins look as stunning at 10 PM as they do in the midday sun.
